Hog Management

The Grant Soil and Water Conservation District offers Feral Swine rentals to help farmers and landowners control the damage caused by Feral Swine

Why are hogs causing issues with landowners in Louisiana?

  • Feral hogs are causing significant issues for landowners in Louisiana due to their rapid reproduction rate and the extensive damage they cause.

  • These hogs impact wildlife, uproot plants, and can even increase erosion, according to experts. They typically travel in packs, making their way through the wilderness with little regard to what stands in the way.

  • Wildlife and fisheries officials call feral hogs one of the most reproductively efficient mammals on the planet, saying Louisiana hunters can’t keep up. They can have up to three litters a year, with 10 to 15 pigs each.
